My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My name is Elora Wolf Williams and I have contracted fernweh. This symptom (aching for distance) is common amongst those who have traveled the world and/or explored beyond their comfort zone. Not only am I contaminated with fernweh; I am also tainted with wanderlust and the love of adventure. The world, the cultures within the world, the people within the cultures, is the passion that I have. Even after traveling to thirteen countries by the time I was nineteen, I have not found my limit on how many cultures I can delve myself into. I didn’t discover how important photography was until I started traveling. How one can take a photo, not think anything of it, then look back years later being able to smell, taste, feel those exact moments in time, is priceless. National Geographic photographer, Sam Abell says it best when he states, “Photography produces pleasure by simplicity. I see something special and show it to the camera. A picture is produced. The moment is held until someone sees it. Then it is theirs”. When I graduate college with my degree in Psychology, I will establish an art-therapy center where people will feel welcome to share their struggles through photography.
