"Strength"
Keshabpur
Jessore, Bangladesh
December, 2009
Although their lives are more grueling than most, the workers of a rural brick making site in Keshabpur, Bangladesh exhibit great strength and resiliency. The mother in the forefront was particularly compelling....her eyes told the story of someone who was stronger than steel.

Whether following a catholic priest through
rural India to document the pivotal role of missionary schools and social
institutions, or working with NGO leaders in Bangladesh to coordinate a
kite-making project with schoolchildren in cyclone affected villages, Ellie Van
Houtte is a tirelessly creative and spontaneous photojournalist, social
anthropologist, and creative political professional that dissects the diverse
cultures of the places, faces and stories of the world around her, and use her
creative skills to motivate change.
With a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from
Miami University, as well as training in the art of political campaigning
through staff positions on U.S. political campaigns ranging from Hillary
Clinton’s 2008 Presdiential Campaign to a national Healthcare Campaign, and
even advocacy work with members of congress and volunteer advocates with the
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Ellie’s diverse background in
organizing, fundraising, strategic planning, staff and volunteer management, as
well as project management is the foundation for her distinctive ability to
mobilize voter and citizen support of critical social, political and environmental issues.

Five years from now, I envision myself working in the field
for organizations such as The National Geographic, The New York Times, and other international media and
non-profit groups to provide visual imagery that narrates and inspires people
to take action to resolve critical social, political and environmental issues.
I also hope to utilize my background in political and issues organizing to
benefit international organizations through event planning, strategic project
management, and creative communications and outreach.
