Moving to the Capital of the world

Last year I decided that I should try to conquer all my dreams before leaving Law School. So, even though I knew I was being the most naïve lawyer-to-be in the whole world I sent my application to the Inter American Comission of Human Rights.
I have been doing different internships since 2009, but getting an internship in the United States and working in a different language than my mother tongue was as amazing as it was terrifying.
Little did I know when I arrived with my big suitcase that Washington D.C. would give me some of my best memories. After getting an appartment to rent right across the street from the coolest Cathedral that has a Darth Vader sculpted in one of its towers and learning how to get the buses and the trains, I felt like I was living in a movie.
I jogged next to the Reflecting Pool pretending to be Forest Gump, had a hot dog late at night at Ben's Chili Bowl wishing that President Obama would show up and even got the opportunity to enter the World Bank and to see the United Nations Secretary-General give a speech at the OAS Main Building.
When I went outside just to buy coffee at Juan Valdez I would be happy and excited for a new adventure. And I did that so much that the lady at the other side of the counter already knew my order: a mocha and a croissant.
Besides from learning how the legal system works at the American System of Human Rights, cultures from all over the continent and practiced my Spanish and my French, I also learned how to play flip cup and where you can buy amazing margarita pitchers (If you are wondering where you can find them, just get the strawberry one at Alero, they are amazing).
I had to go back home when my internship ended, but I learned so much and had so many great experiences that I can never go back to the United States and not spend at least a couple of days enjoying a nice brunch or just getting amazing cupcakes at the Capital of the World.
