Deep in the middle of the Himalayas, is a village Gangotri where people don’t live. The village supposedly was the birth place of the Sacred, mighty, life supporting, perennial river Ganga. My maiden trip to the mighty Himalayan mountains and moreover to the birth place of the greatest life supporting mechanism of India and its culture was the best choice. It was very straining, because it was my first high altitude trekking trip
Many devotees visit this place and it is opened for public in beginning of summer to the beginning of winter. For The rest of six months this place is abandoned due to its harsh climate.
The river is formed by the melting glacier which has now receded by almost 22 kilometers but still supplies water to some of the largest dams and huge population supporting their various needs. It is a sad story that these glaciers are affected by the global climatic variations and largely by the devotees who don't understand or ignore voluntarily or involuntarily, the effect of their indiscriminate actions which are polluting the surroundings and the river
It was the most satisfying trip I ever had; it had the feeling of happiness and a sense of achievement. This trip was inspired by my desire to travel and relish the existence of everything this world contains. I travel not just because it makes a great vacation but because I want to know this world in a better way. Meeting people, correcting/ making new opinions about the place, the people and their culture are parts of my trip
Working as manager in an automobile company, I have to wait for the once in a year vacation to satisfy my desire to travel and take that part of the world back with me as images. I believe this scholarship can change all and give me chance to make my work itself a vacation
