Food or mood?
Night. It remained only five minutes to arrive in New Delhi, but I had already felt an aromatic smell of India so strongly. Immediately my imagination pictured Indian karri mixed with such a famous Basmati rice and vegetables. Came to the Hostel of University, where I should stay 8 month, I had mine the first breakfast: yellow rice with nuts, fried potato. It calls poa.
- They cook for us rather tasty and not spicy food here,- I told to my new friend from Bulgaria. She came to India earlier than me.
- Yes, for the first two-three weeks, but not more,- she replied.
- Why?
- It is so tasteless! I don’t feel myself satisfied any more from rice. They cook it two, sometimes even three times per day.Crazy!
Indians think in different ways.Dhal, spicy souses, vegetables are prepared around the main course – Rice. This scheme of cooking reminds me Yoga. Once my Indian teacher of Yoga said: “Breathing is the main shank in Yoga. No matter how many asanas you do,mainly–breathe”. I wouldn’t be surprise, if rice were valued as breathe in India.
Once i said myself:“Enough.I need some different taste”. I went to store. Shelf of western food occupied of one corner in whole supermarket. Only Indian products surrounded me: so many kinds of rise, sweets, spices, oils. No brown bread, no hard cheese and no buckwheat.Leaving this “food paradise” only with sintered cheese, I realized–Indians has patriotic rage even of food. Variety of religions, languages, traditions don’t affect variety of cuisine in India. Indian style is the best for everyone. Difference in seasoning: it adds for flavor, color, aroma to each dish. Indians don’t know limits of ingredients: spicy, sweet, oily–everything is over and above.Maybe Indians try to create their lives more hot and honeyed by food? But life in India has already these kinds of tastes:sugary and salt in the same moment.I have felt it the first time in my life. In the land of contrasts I prefer mood than food.Only it is another story.
