My name is Emily Huber and I recently graduated from
Dominican University of California. I received my BFA in Graphic Design. I chose food as my subject matter because Italy is known for its distinct, great tasting food. Food is one of the many great ways to experience culture. My relatives are from Italy and I have been fortunate enough to be able to visit my family there since I was young. My earliest memories of those trips are all based around eating. As a third generation Italian American, I know first hand that food brings the family together. While visiting Italy, I travelled to marketplaces, restaurants, cafes, and kitchens to experience and capture the life of this culture, which is brought out through its food. Along with my love for food, I have always been interested in art and traveling. Since I was exposed to different cultures from a young age, I have always had a desire to branch out to experience new cultures. Because of this, I find myself to be open minded and always eager to learn. Photography seemed to be an instant match for me. I have enjoyed every aspect the medium has to offer and exploring new techniques with film, digital, and pin-hole. While photographing with a hand-made pin-hole camera, I would take my time to find the perfect composition. Since I didn't have the luxury of previewing an image immediately after it was taken, the capability of taking hundreds of photographs in one shoot, or the convenience of easily printed images, I would carefully plan my shot. I continue to challenge myself to take my digital photographs with the same mindset I have when I take pictures with a pin-hole camera. I have the skills and open mind to succeed in this position. All I need is a leader to provide the opportunity and teach me more.
