Sunday, 04/10/98, Cairo. "For those who applied for the Spanish classes, either you take a break or attend the German session"."Why not!" that was my reply!!
After the session I went directly and changed my application into German. My teacher managed to make me not only like the German but to love Germany itself! since that day I couldn't stop thinking of Germany.
Travelling to Germany on my own back then is exactly when you think of spending your summer vacation on mars!
Internships! I didn't even know that such exist! All my info about Germany were through pretty old magazines. That was the only option available!
Saturday 30/09/06, "Morning Ahmed" said my German teacher at Goethe institute, "There is a competition and the one who will get the highest marks this course will be sent to Germany, your dream will come true finally!" I wasn't actually listening, I was already there! It was my 8th level and I was always the first on my class! Yesss!
Historical fact, I have never got something that I was favored for. I couldn't make it to the exam as I had a university exam.
Why are you doing this to me Germany, I just love you.
6 trials to go to Germany, all of them failed for , until that day when I saw that announcement: a 1 month internship in Germany, Desired profile to be a pharmacist, between 22 & 24, speaks Arabic, English and German fluently and has wide experience in students' activities preferably didn't travel to Germany before. They only forgot to add my name!!
I couldn't believe my eyes, I started filling in the application, I even went the extra mile by providing more than what they needed, I wanted to make sure that I will make it this time. There were few more hours left, I kept reviewing the application, it was never closer!
It is 11:30PM and only 30min till the deadline, it is about time! I said to myself. While opening my email, the last thing that I could have in my worst dreams happened, the electricity went off!
12:03 am, the electricity is back and I'm crying. That night taught me one thing, it is not if I'm going to Germany anymore, it is...when I'm going to Germany.
Friday 08/08/08, Erfurt, Today is a special day , not only because it is numerically special or because my research was nominated the best in the middle east and I'm here to present it but also because today my dream has finally come true, I knew why destiny delayed it to that day and to the 8th trial.
It was my...most special birthday in my life.
