yet again, where are the beautiful people? Liz & I spent over an hour sitting on a pedestrian street in Wellington (2nd largest city, teh capitol of NZ, for crying out loud!), & watched lots of people w/ below-average attractiveness walk by. when does that ever happen in a city? you always hear at least of all teh gorgeous women populating various places (Greek, Mexican, Brazilian, australian, whatever), & yet here, we couldn't even find people who looked normal!
and whoever brought back skinny jeans, anyway? why don't we remember the 80's, & how atrocious they were?!
however, Wellington was somewhat redeemed the next day, when we checked out the FREE Te Papa Museum, which was cool, really cool. we also saw people who were attractive again, which was nice. they had informative exhibits that were interesting, not just factual, & very forthright. for example, 1 floor consisted of art; there was a NZ painter who had a painting in the style of Dali. rather than make something up (though I must admit, they did speculate a bit), the placard simply said, "we don't know what's going on here." way to be down-to-earth!
also, I of course found the history floor to be fascinating, as it told the stories of immigrants & had interactive computer programs, to see how you'd do as the cap'n of a ship taking immigrants & such. I did quite well, even made a profit. :) anyway, they made sure to include not only ppl who settled in NZ & were successful & happy, but also those who just wanted to go home, or who were complete failures, making all sorts of mistakes. I highly recommend this museum, just perhaps do it in 2 days, since it's way too much to take in in 1 day; you get quite overwhelmed & your feet feel like you've been shopping all day.
we just took the ferry over to the South Island last night, & are about to go on a 4-5 day backpack of the Queen Charlotte Track, before we do more WWOOFing up N. in Marlborough Sounds, N of Havelock.
