oh, God, I tried vegemite for the first time this morning, it was disgusting! I'd thought for sure that people were just exaggerating that the stuff was nasty, thinking, it might be a good alternative for all the peanut butter Liz & I've been eating, which is up to almost 3 kgs already! so, after taking a whiff, I bit the bullet & tried a mere dabble, about gagged & was quite grateful that we had some hokey pokey icecream in the freezer, in order to drown out the taste. I immediately dug in. Nothing like icecream for breakfast! (as of last night there was 5 liters of the stuff, as a matter of fact, but now we're down to about 1! went well w/ the Dominos BBQ pizza--last night--& the green beans I ate for breakfast.)
as I said, our peanut butter & icecream (not necessarily together) consumption has been out of control. we've also been taken care of by the various folks who inhabit our hostel, which is rather odd, since they're all guys younger than us! we've had our 23 & 26-year-old Iranian friends cook for us, a 22-year-old Chinese guy cook amazing rice dishes for us, our 20-year-old chinese supervisor at work share his bagged cookies & snacks w/ us, etc. the hospitality is amazing, no matter what we do. we protest & protest, then finally give in & eat something. it's ridiculous! we've had to buy things to give in return, which isn't quite the same. plus, you wouldn't believe what characters these people are, who absolutely crack us up. I'll fill you in some other time about that...
this was supposed to be our last day of work in the vineyard, but we got rained out, so instead I went running & came to the library. This evening we're headed to our first WWOOFing (farm stay) experience nearby (Havelock North), which we're quite excited about. it's definitely bittersweet, leaving our friends behind here (who knew we'd get so comfortable in a filthy hostel w/ ESL speakers?), but we're quite anxious to move on from our work & experience something new. we're planning on spending 4 days @ 1 place, then going to Rotorua, which boasts sky diving & zorbing & such activities. we're also planning to WWOOF there.
Mom, remember my Chinese lady dr when I was a little kid, blood infection & breaking pelvis time? 1 of the Chinese ladies that we've been working w/, who understands but doesn't speak English, wears a red hoodie w/ spitfire written on the front & a flaming ball on the back. :)
anybody from home, how are the Colts doing?
