My Love Affair with New York City.

Everyone can remember their first love and everyone can remember how that love made them feel. The first time I experienced a love as grand as this was ten years ago, when a city so captivating stole my heart. The city was New York. I wondered to myself if New York would remember me, the way I fondly remembered it all those years ago. I didn’t have butterflies, I had elephants. The elephants became a stampede the closer the plane got. I was welcomed with frosty air and endless wonder.
Where else in the world could you be in china town soaking up the busy atmosphere of fish mongers setting about their daily business to cross the street and experience the allure and charisma of little Italy. Two cultures experienced within a few blocks of each other. Priceless. Or what other street in the world could you stroll down and see stocks go up and down, as much as the bright yellow cabs that race the avenues and alleyways around the urban financial forest. You can easily get carried away in the raw energy New York has to offer, and, at times confuse yourself to be an actual New Yorker who inhales the breath of the city that never sleeps.
The sights are there to be marvelled at and the money is there to be made. New York is a character in its own right and once you meet New York, you can understand why everyone is seduced by the appeal of this spectacular city. It is hard to believe that such tragedy could ever strike a city so rich and promising. Just viewing the upsetting spot where 9/11 took place, you instantly get a feel for how New York changed that day. Looking at the massive buildings which seem impenetrable you are reminded of the more vulnerable side the city has. The atmosphere, the buildings, the lights and the people are what make New York. You can as easily watch the train’s race in the subway of the city as you can take in an out of this world show on Broadway.
It is the best relationship to have as you can never get bored of each other’s company. New York has so much to offer and all it wants in return is for you to experience it and make your own perfect New York. As I left the city (in a fancy town car) I looked out the window with a glimmer of hope and sense of purpose, waving to the maze of sky risers stacked like dominos and the chill that hugged them all, knowing that one day I would return for a permanent visit because… that is New York…where anything is truly possible.
