MIDDLE EAST WRAP UP!

EGYPT | Wednesday, 7 November 2012 | Views [343]

A few key items to close out the Middle East leg. An update on the age old debate of -
Wheelie Bag vs.Backpack

Tally stands at Wheelie 3, Backpack 2...

Wheelie score 1 for -
Luton Airport
Israel Airport
Petra Hills

Backpack score 1 for -
Wadi Rum sand
Israel border with uneven steps everywhere

HORN 101

As the car horn seems to be an extension of expression for Middle Eastern drivers I have tried to transcribe it's meanings below...

Egypt
1 honk = I'm coming next to you/ move over
2 honks = watch out

1 can also be used for 'I'm a taxi'

Israel
1 honk = Taxi?
2 honks = Stay there!

Jordan
1 honk = Taxi?
2 honks = I'm coming through/ stay there

Continuous in all countries = COME ON!!!

Such a very different experience that was incredibly insightful and at times created more questions than answers. The isolation of being lone tourists was definitely

saddening for the countries we visited but at the same time created a journey that was a little bit more confronting than I had imagined. The experiences I have had in

the Middle East from the religious, the awe inspiring moments of a forgotten city, to the yoga diving and meditation, the hospitality of the Bedouin people and the craziness of Cairo will stay with me for many years.
