Leaving Australia

ARGENTINA | Saturday, 14 March 2015 | Views [387]

Today I flew from Sydney to Buenos Aires via Santiago.  We checked out of the lovely (no) funkhouse and after posting another box of things home, went to have breakfast at the airport.  I left Kay at the airport which was again very difficult.

The flight was Quantas and was 11hrs 45.  I managed to sleep quite well, about 5 hours, and  the food was good.  A chilean australian lady sitting next to me was teaching me some Spanish - mainly how to catch a taxi! When i checked in at Santiago for the next flight I was told that my bag would not be on the same flight as me! Apparently the quantas plane is too big to get the bags off before this flight was due to leave.  I stayed calm and got on the plane.  We ended up waiting a while and the flight was quite empty.  When we arrived in Buenos Aires I went to the baggage reclaim to see if it was there and  thank goodness it was one of the first ones to come through!

I managed to catch a taxi and arrive safely to the dazzler hotel in San Telmo.  The driver didnt speak any English but we managed to communicate quite well! I also did quite well with the price so the staff at Dazzler told me, only USD 50 from the airport was very good! I sussed out the plan for joining the tour and then made the journey to the hostel for the night. Dazzler told me it was only a 10 minute walk and showed me on the map.  They ensured me it was safe enough to walk by myself with all my things. So I did.  I checked in at the hostel, got something to eat and drink there then went to bed very early.

After a long night, waking up due to jetlag, people coming in and out of the room and someone vomiting (its sadly a party hostel) I largely felt better from the journey.  After breakfast I checked out and waited until I could check in to The Dazzler to join my tour.  After umming and arrring for a while about whether to taxi the short walk or not I decided I would be ok walking again.
