Back in Mexico

Hey Everyone,

Ok, new blogging strategy, short and sweet! I’ve been back in Mexico now for about 2 weeks after a nice long 3 week vacation in the US. There were lots of highlights, including:

- Getting to know my niece (she’s the best)

- Playing golf with my mom and dad (I’m not the best)

- Seeing lots of you (my wonderful family and friends), although the weeks flew by and I didn’t get to do as much visiting/ catching up as I would have liked.

- Finally, enjoying the conveniences of life in the US.

There was some weird feelings arriving in the US, I think my sister and Lynsey probably got sick of hearing, “In Mexico…..” that first weekend. But, it’s hard not to compare and I was constantly thinking about how things are the same or how they are different. Arriving back in Mexico after 3 weeks away didn’t feel all that strange, it felt good to be back. The first day back at work I found out that the one child I see in individual therapy ran away shortly after I had left and they hadn’t heard anything from him. I felt pretty angry that nobody had let me know and also worried about him. Luckily, by the next Tuesday we had shown up at another social service agency in Puebla, and by Friday he was back in the house. Since I’ve been back we had one graduation and have another one tomorrow. The kids are leaving us like I don’t know what! I’ve been nominated official-video-presentation-maker so I’ve been spending hours in front of the computer learning Adobe Premiere. It’s a pretty cool program, but I am glad I’m almost done with graduation #2. Things are, in general, going great with Juconi. I love the organization and the people here. I am feeling appreciated and get lots of positive feedback. They are trying to talk me in to staying longer, which I would love to do, but I’ve really gotta get around to doing that post-doc!

Since I’ve gotten back I’ve gone to Mexico City both weekends. The first weekend, I went to practice and hang out with my ultimate team, and the next weekend I went for a tournament. I’m getting spoiled by staying with a friend and her family. Her dad gets up and makes fresh orange juice every morning. Not only do we get to have it for breakfast, but he sends us each a bottle along for later. Dad, if you are reading, take note!

So…that’s pretty much everything happening in Puebla. Hope everyone is well!

Em, I had almost given up on your blog. Glad you got back into the swing of things without missing a step. I'm sure you will leave a positive influence on the young people you work with in Mexico. Stay well. Aunt Connie
