In Case You're Worried....Don't Be!!

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that I'm fine since I've been slacking on the blog lately. I said goodbye to Cuernavaca :-( And have made it safely back to Puebla. It seems I have "la gripa," which here in Mexico is just another name for a cold. I've been feeling sick since last weekend and have been opting for sleep any chance I get! Since I love to sleep anyway, it's been a sleep-ful week. Since I've been back in Puebla I've been talking with people here at Juconi and visiting the different Juconi sites throughout the city. Yesterday I spent the day with 3-6 year olds, many of whom also have "la gripa," so I'm sure assisting them with brushing their teeth didn't help me! Today I spent the day with the boys at Casa Juconi (the residential placement). I think that is my favorite, I guess I just have a soft spot for residential care! I think I also enjoy the variety of ages and the ability to interact with the boys one on one, rather than chasing little ones around making sure they don't hurt themselves. I actually learned how to play chess today. Yep, that's right. I had never been taught, but today an 11 year old changed that. He told me I was a quick study. Well, something like that. He said it in Spanish, so don't trust my translation. On that subject, several people that I met before I went to Cuernavaca have told me that they notice an improvement in my language skills! That is really nice to hear, because I still feel like I have so much to learn. Anyway, I'm satisfied with progress for now. Tonight I went to a mall because I need "tacos" for this weekend. No, not stocking up on comida (food) for the weekend, I'm actually supposed to play in an ultimate tournament and I needed cleats. I considered bringing mine here to Mexico, but they didn't make the luggage cut. Which, by the way, most people are impressed with the small amount of luggage I brought for 10 months. I started this story about the mall, because the woman working at the sporting goods store complimented me on my Spanish:-) Again, nice to hear. Don't let all these positives fool you though, there are MANY times when I still have NO idea what is going on. Luckily, people are really helpful here! Ok, that's enough for now, but I do have lots more that I want to write about. Right now I'm going to opt for more sleep!

Hope everyone is well. Thanks for the comments and emails! I always enjoy hearing from home.

Em,

It sounds as though your return from language school has lessened the anxiety from when you first arrived in Puebla. I hope that your cold clears up for you soon. I'm sure you're enjoying the increased sleep though :) Had our first snow in Erie today.....just kidding, it was up to about 70 degrees.

Take care,
Scott

Hi Em,
I smiled at the sound of "la gripa".Didn't sound like a cold at first. Glad you explained. It sounded worse:) Please take care of yourself. So, tacos aren't what I would get a Taco Bell! Anxious to hear about the ultimate tournament. I'm proud of you and the increased vocabulary.Love you, Aunt C
