My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Tuesday, November 1, 2011 | 5 photos

My name is Dhaneesh Yeshodharan, I am a citizen of India and I love photography and the idea that it represents, maybe because as a human I need to express my thoughts, and ironic as it is, I am not particularly verbose. I am a firm believer of the immortal quote of Ansel Adams ie"There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs"so, I try. I am a lover of animals, admirer of flight and beholder of beauty in whatever form it may be. These photos that I have uploaded are of Old Delhi(Shajahanabad). This rustic place is full of colours, smell and taste remenescent of the old world, and secrets that we may be completley ignorant of. These photos are an attempt to recite an event that has not been brought to the attention of the masses. The truth about the great urdu poet Asadullah Khan Ghalib. Immortaized by his epic love poem this mugal era poet used to live in the bylanes of chandni chowk, his haveli(home), where it stands today has been converted into a museum for all his followers. people do flock to this historic location and so did I. There I met a gentleman who was probably in his 40's, and he claimed that this wasn't the home of Asadullah Khan Ghalib as claimed and immortalized by the govt of Delhi, it was infact a horse stable used by the then prominent residents of the area. He proceded to explain to me the reality. The first photo shows us going into the Galib memorial after managing to find it. The second is that of a plaque erected by the govt of delhi giving details about the haveli. The third photo is of the memorial as we saw it. The fourth is of the holes that the man claimed was where the wooden rods used to be inserted to tie the horses, and finally the picture of gentleman debunking the myth to a news crew.
