Through local eyes at the Festival of Lights

My Scholarship entry - Through Local Eyes

WORLDWIDE | Monday, 15 October 2012 | Views [260] | Scholarship Entry

We were inspired by our multicultural backgrounds (Japan, Peru) to create a film which explored what living in a society with many hybrid cultures was like. I (Ayu) had been to the Diwali festival a few times over the years, and found it to be very representative of the changing face of New Zealand, and how based on their different backgrounds, everyone got something different out of it.

We met at Auckland University, where we are both currently studying Film. Filmmaking is a hobby and a passion for us both.

We would like to tell stories about the world around us, to educate but also to entertain. Dunia is from Peru, which could be called Brazil's cousin. I have been slightly obsessed with Latin America for a while. To win the scholarship would mean that we have the opportunity to tell a story in which we could offer the point of view of someone knowledgable about the culture, and a team passionate about it.
