My Scholarship entry - Living with Sled Dogs in the Arctic

Norway | Monday, November 24, 2014 | 5 photos

Hunter S. Thompson said "Buy the ticket, take the ride". I did and now I'm the coldest and darkest place I've ever been in my life: Finnmark, Norway, 250 miles into the Arctic circle. I've always had a bit of a fascination with extreme environments but this is the first time I've actually confronted my fears enough to go out into one. I guess I was able to get over those fears because the thing I most like doing is telling stories, visually, through both photography and film. To earn my keep I'm working as a dog sled tour guide for the whole winter season. Being out in harsh conditions with the dogs has already given me an intimate connection to the places I'm photographing.

I'm 22 and last May I graduated from UCA's Film Production programme. The past year has been difficult, a lot of introspection and second guessing myself, but I've come out of it sure about the kind of future I'd like to have.

I'm already fully committed to a life of travel, and telling stories through photography and on film that excite and interest me, but being chosen for this scholarship would help accelerate bringing that dream into the present. Thank you for your time and consideration.
