My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

From Vietnam to Russia and to East Germany, my parents met, got married, and gave birth, in Vietnam, to a little boy who then spent the first few years of his childhood in the middle of Berlin, Germany. After getting back to the motherland, my family had moved from places to places, trying to settle down somewhere: Ha Noi, Ha Nam, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City... before finally set foot in Dong Nai Province. I guess it is genetic that when I turned 16, I moved, alone, to Saigon to study at a fine high school of the country before reaching to the States to pursue higher education and now, doing internship in South Korea. My friends always think it's funny that a Vietnamese boy comes to America, takes the internship opportunity in Korea, and works hard to land again in Germany. I guess it is genetic and it is complicatedly amazing to me to go out, to meet new friends, to get lost, and to see the world with my two 22mm-F/3.2 naked eyes.
These photos I took during a trip to Yeongdong village (South Korea) with other international friends. Potting was one of the greatest experience we have had so far in Korea. Learning about the history of pottery, experiencing the feel of clay, and absorbing knowledge from our master really brought us to a whole new level of our exchange life here in Korea. "The Touch of Clay" hopefully captures all of the moments of guidance, elegance, dedication, and deliberation of the art of learning and making Onggi - tradition pottery in South Korea.
