Meeting Sherpa people in the Himalayan region was a very special encounter. They are one of the humblest people in the world, carrying incredible weights, crossing outnumbered amounts of kilometres almost barefoot and always with a smile. Meeting them on the way in the Himalayas make you become more persistent at your journey. Along with the stunning panoramic views on the glacier lakes is the reward you get, after crossing huge altitude differences, mountain passes, which sometimes seem impossible to cross. Looking at the eagles flying around 7000 m summits towards the sun, spinning the prayer wheels to clean your soul... Finding an inner peace was never so easy. Realizing how less you need to be happy. Sitting at the fireplace where the wood from trees is used in the lowland, however in the highlands only yak poo is available and yet everyone gathers around the fire place in the evening to warm their feet.
Mostly tourists starts their trek from Lukla clock wise as it is easier, but why not trying the other way around, the Buddhist way (from the left). It is tougher, harder, but you meet less people on the way moreover it is the way Sherpas are doing. Fortemba our hired Sherpa, was happy with the decision. He looked at the mountains as they were his own, showing us his favourites spots, inviting us (friend and me) to his home and gifting us the Khata, white scarf, with which a lama later on gave us the blessing, was exceptional. Having built a little house with his own hands, we were invited for yak tea and buckwheat pancake to his home where he lives with his wife and three children. All this made me realize that happiness is something all of us can have, no matter how rich or poor you are. I will always remember the singing voices of little children that all one day wants to become a sherpa as this job is highly valued and respected. I am grateful I was able to spend 23 days with Sherpa that taught me how to enjoy the silence and see the nature through his eyes.
