My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

These photos represent a time of happiness and escape for me. Whenever something's going on in my life that's troubling or challenging me, I know I can always get behind the lens and shoot the world through my eyes. I have a deep love for landscape photography and ever since seeing Ansel Adams photos from a young age have set myself the mission to photograph some of the worlds great scenic views. So far I have had the chance to shoot Yosemite National Park and Death Valley and want to recapture that feeling of beauty and tranquility that overwhelms me when I immerse myself within nature. I have no formal photography training and all the pictures I have taken so far have been predominantly based on feeling and catering to what I feel is satisfying. I would love to learn from someone with such an enviable portfolio and line of work. Travel and journalism photography are the few things that have captured my imagination over the past couple of years and I'd to love to be able to go into the wild and experience the true beauty of nature. All my pictures are apart of my life journey, and now it's just about adding to that journey. I initially gravitated towards black and white photography but have now been experimenting with colour. All my pictures were taken in the blistering August heat in the depths of Death Valley.
