My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

The Winterhoffs: It may not seem like a significant name to the rest of the world, but for the small town of Glasshouse Mountains, in South East Queensland, Australia, the Winterhoff family are well known. My photographs depict one of a collection of pineapple farms owned by the Winterhoff family. My partner and his sisters grew up on the farm, his father and his sisters did too.
Something I take into special consideration when photographing, are the details. Everone remembers the big things, but not always the smaller, more subtle things. What about the little bugs and insects? What about the flora? They are just as much a part of the farm as the pineapples.
I hope to demonstrate to you the strong history which runs through this farm. Whenever I visit the farm, I feel a wonderful sense of nostalgia and curiosity, but to my partner and his family, this is just a part of their everyday life.
This is such a fantastic opportunity for me, as I have always had a strong interest in travel. It is my goal to one day travel and capture the world with my camera. I would like to use my photography in a way which would help other people. I am fascinated by other cultures and believe that I should be selected for the scholarship not only for the incredible opportunity that it is, but as it will allow me to develop my skills and knowledge as a photographer, and to grow and explore as a young adult, hoping to change the world.
