My Scholarship entry - Family union and resistance: the Kurds in Turkey
Turkey | Tuesday, November 11, 2014 | 5 photos
Kurds fight assimilation in the different parts of the divided Kurdistan: Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey.
In early 2014 I travelled to the city of Mardin in the Turkish Kurdistan and stayed with the Cirik family to look at the cultural and economic violence against the Kurds: poverty, prohibition of Kurdish language and flag in official spaces and prosecution of social organizers.
My photographs aimed to portray family union as a way to preserve Kurdish traditions, and therefore a form of cultural resistance.
