Arrival in South Goa

INDIA | Monday, 12 December 2005 | Views [827] | Comments [4]

I'm in South Goa now and I like it. It's quieter and less developed than North Goa with less touts which is nice. I arrived without a hotel which was a mistake because I arrived late and I had to rely on a taxi driver. A taxi driver will get you a hotel but it won't be the cheapest or of good quality. I mean, the place is cheap and well placed but poor quality, if I had organised something I could have got cheaper and better placed and good quality. Lesson learned.

The day after arriving I arranged alternatived accomodation which I move into tomorrow morning. The guy told me that I was lucky that he had a room at all, did I know it was almost Christmas? I did but I didn't realise that it was only two weeks away. Anyway, he has a basic room for 350 rupees which is less than half what I pay for my current room, and then on the 21st a flat becomes available with television and some basic cooking arrangements and a fridge. The flat will cost 700rps a night but no problem if it is good quality and it will be great for Christmas!

Hey Mikey, I was wondering why I haven't heard from you. You must be too busy peddling your self around. When did you get a bike? I move into my flat this weekend and am looking forward to it. I think our experiences have diverged greatly. I've re-established myself as a great American consumer. I've even bought a decent set of pots and pans! And tonight I'm buying a 27' television! Life is good. I like putting new clothes on every other day. Although now I do think I have sufficient to see me through a cold Boston winter. I would not have lasted with the little I brought back with me. My internet service will be hooked up on Monday so I will become a more regular correspondent. I have to say, I love my life. I'm unbearably happy. It feels good. Lots of love, Cynthia

Hello
This is for mike, I have a few questions about India and it appears you may have some experience and possibly some advice. First off I am a 26 year old female looking to voluteer with Volunteers for Peace in India but in a location unknown to me at this time. I am looking to leave early to mid May 2006. Do you know anything about the organization, advice on the culture, etc? Also, any suggestions for a first time traveler determined to go, and expecting the unexpected?
FYI: I plan on flying out of USA to either Thailand, Bangkok then into India.
TATA for now
