My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Canada | Wednesday, July 3, 2013 | 5 photos

I am a New Zealand photographer who has been taking photographs since I was 16. With the occasional recognition for my work, I made the decision to travel abroad and figure out exactly what it is I wanted to achieve with my craft.

Travelling has provided me endless opportunities to experiment. My video work has included several award and prize winning promotional films, music videos, and experimental shorts. As I progressed in this area however I came to realise it was the visual element that excited me the most, the role of light and lens to create a message. It is the smaller details that motivate me, focussing on a single element that brings focus to the idea as a whole. I enjoy the challenge of creating a message from a single image as clearly as a video.

I am currently heavily involved in my hiking and mountain photography, having moved to Jasper national park to pursue this field. The thrill of capturing a moment that may never be repeated the same way before a lens has focussed my love of travel/documentary photography. I feel I would be physically capable of the Greenland assignment were I to be awarded the opportunity.
