My Scholarship entry - Time in the bay

My name is Corey Bynum. I served with the American Red Cross and aided in the Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita effort. I worked as shift supervisor to the Nichols state University Shelter. I spent months helping the families affected, take fragments of their old lives and use them as foundations for their future. I am a veteran of the United States Navy. I spent my days of enlistment as a Hospital Corpsman working in hospitals on the east coast and at the infamous Guantanamo Bay. I have worked in Emergency Rooms, Operating Rooms, Primary care clinics, Sick call and all the like. I am currently working on my Bachelors degree in Anthropology and would like to get my PhD in Applied Medical Anthropology. With this degree in hand I plan to attend Medical School and eventually work for National Geographic Magazine and Doctors without borders. I intend on mixing the worlds of art and science, blood and apertures, to open the eyes of the world to the plight and misfortune that is easily ignored by the masses. During my travels with National Geographic, I plan to open small health clinics in the areas I visit, giving the people of that area access to much needed medical treatment. I am only one man, with one large dream, but with the help of organizations like Doctors without borders and National Geographic I hope to make this dream a reality.
