To experience the festival of Durga Puja from a deeper perspective, it was imperative for us to go beyond the obvious frolic that convoys most Indian festivals. We heard the story of Alokananda Roy, a dance teacher who teaches dance to jail inmates and immediately connected her story to that of Maa Durga's legend.Through dance, she helps defeat the demons within them. The myth turned to reality for us and we just had to capture the magic on film.
I, Disha, have been independently making short films, travel videos and dabbling in theatre for a few years. I interned at a production house last year and learnt the technical aspects of the process for the lack of formal education in filmmaking. Hiresh, my teammate, is an avid photographer and is grooming his penchant for motion pictures. Being friends first, we share a comfort level that is conducive to a great presenter-cinematographer rapport. We want our films to be wholesome journeys for people who may not have the time or the luxury to take one on.
Having learnt a great deal from just watching World Nomads travel video journals, we can only imagine the level of refinement that winning this scholarship will bring to our talent.
