Introducing me, a single woman, sitting at the front seat of an open stage in mid July where the full moon revealed itself in its full glory, giving an exotic shade of the temples below it.
Soon a music came from traditional instrument called gamelan and figures dancing gracefully to tell a story of Rama and Shinta. The story was quite simple. Rama, our hero, must save princess Shinta from the evil monster.
Guess what the ending is. But worry not, such a simple story it was, it won't cure any insomnia anytime soon. The combination of grand stage and the winning background would surely took your breath away, leaving an impression that will last until years to come.
Ironically, even though the show itself was basically a happy ending love story, the real myth behind Prambanan was actually an unrequited love between Bandung Bondowoso and Roro Jonggrang. Bandung was so head over heels in love to the point he agreed when Roro asked him to construct a thousand temples in only one night as a condition for their marriage. In the end, Roro tricked him so he could not finish the last temple. Bandung got upset, cursed Roro into a statue to decorate the temple he already built.
Two love stories end up differently and another one belongs to the writer had not even begin its prologue.
Sitting here admiring the beauty of Prambanan, this lonely woman sighed and wondered :
How could Roro said no to this.
