My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

I’m Dilshaan Gunasekera by name and aged 28. I come from a country which got liberated itself from terrorists after a civil war of 3decades. We are usually known as the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean” and that’s none other than Sri Lanka.
My hunger for photography began at the age of 13years. Since then I have been capturing pictures of wild-life, sceneries and people which I come across. Animals and greenery is what inspires me the most amongst all. I’m a wild life enthusiast. I enjoy travelling to the national parks in Sri Lanka – Yala, Wasgamuwa , Udawalawe and love to capture Leopards (being my favorite) and elephants. I recall several incidents where Elephants kept charging at me and leopards use to wink at me.
Yala national park amaze me the most as of now where I have contributed the pictures of identifying few of the 70+ leopards in block1, where it say that the highest density of leopards roam in the world.
Why I love photography is because you can live the moment again and again in your mind. When you look back, getting that perfect shot with the correct lighting & working with the environment & the conditions around you is a tough task there are times I got lucky shooting a peacock mating which is very rare as well as there are times without a single shot.
I may not be a professional photographer but I believe I have got the skill set to become one. If I’m chosen to be the one travelling to South Africa, I’m confident that I will be able to acquire the technical knowledge what’s lacking in me right now and will base the platform to further my career in photography and help the community and the one who love Arts.
