The Practice of Wonder

Unlike many people trying to make it in the film industry, I don't want to be a part of the Hollywood studio system. I love watching narrative films, but a few years ago I realized I don't want to create stories within my own mind. Instead, I want to find them in the world around me, dive into them, get personally involved, and share them with the rest of the world in the most honest way I can. Last year I started making short documentaries about the people in my life and the challenges we face together. In the process, I realized that as an art form, documentaries satisfy all the creative urges that drew me to film in the first place. The process of documentary film making gives me an opportunity to learn, teaches me to empathize, and allows me to offer a voice to those who might not have one otherwise. To win this competition and make a film in Columbia would be the next incredible step in what I hope will be a lifetime of learning and creating. If you choose me, I will not take this opportunity for granted. If I win, I will do my best to craft a work of art that captures a portion of life in Columbia as honestly and lovingly as possible. Thanks for giving me a chance at the prize.
