My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

India | Monday, November 7, 2011 | 5 photos

Good day,
They say something as small as the flutter of a butterflies wings can cause a typhoon halfway across the world, same applies to me the time when I was 8 years old and Dad brought a 36 roll reel camera and it changed my life, an inception never thought of, the best thing that ever happened to me and here I am now..
My name is Dev Sharma, 20 years old from Shimla, India. Art has been a motivating factor for me since I was a small kid, I still remember during Sundays when I used to sit outside my home with water colors and a white drawing board endlessly losing the understanding of time as I painted the scene as it laid ahead .It evoked a mystery deep inside me a dream that has always transcended since….
I got my first camera when I was in 8 years old a reel and it was different, it was strange, it felt special. I no longer had to paint anything the final painting laid ahead already , just waiting to be captured .I was painting again but now my canvas were my photographs.

When I came to the college I joined the photography club and found many people sharing the same love, the same excitement, the passion for photography. We Formed a group named PIXONOIDS the graphics team which handled all the graphical works of institute’s fest having photography to its core conducted workshops within and outside the institute and generated the funds to buy our first SLR camera.SLR was amazing it gave me endless power to shoot, to express it was so fun.
Then something happened one day, I won’t say that day was one of the best one’s but I was depressed due to something and don’t know why but I just reached for my computer and opened Photoshop and started editing photos I had taken that day and while doing so the heat cooled down in a hour and that time I saw what I had created in last hour it took me away I was shocked that all of my emotions, my feeling were immersed in the photographs I took they were amazing.. Since that time Art has been my channel of communications, my channel of emotions it felt amazing how art changed my life, how a simple photograph taken could speak for itself, my art spoke for itself…

Photography gives me power and freedom, it induces so much of creativity in my work experience, I love to take photographs on a theme and conceptual work. I love to photograph nature and animals pure as they are, the essence it bestows upon me when I capture it I want it to do the same on the people who see it making people see what generally tend to overlook.
Photography as it is has been with me since I was 8 and it has been a fabulous experience till now and I look forward to it with the same curiosity since the time I first took a photograph.
