Are you enjoying BC, Bud?

Go to Kelowna in the Summertime. Don’t ask why, don’t say you haven’t got the funds or you don’t know anyone there. Just go, okay? Okay.

The people here have got it absolutely dialled. Sunny days that blend to nights on the lake, mountain views, “floats” (where you journey down a river in an inflatable tube with a sixer and let the flow take you back to town) and most pubs have an insane variety of beers on tap, not to mention the vineyards for which the Okanagan Valley is famous.

I arrived in the stinking desert heat after spending most of the ride talking to my new (but old) friend, Bill, a bloke who studied political science at uni. In the 50's. Bill and I shared a similar outlook on the world at hand which led talks about Canada, Central America and Chomsky and made for an interesting and enlightening 6 hour bus ride.

Never let anyone tell you Canadians aren’t the nicest and most hospitable people on earth. Megan picked me up from the Greyhound depot and was kind enough to offer my pick of “either a children’s mattress or the lounge” for the 3 nights I was in Westbank so long as I drank with them. I obliged.

3 days blurred together in a sea of beer and a lake of fun with Tuesday definitely taking the cake for best day of the trip so far. The really cool thing about Kelowna is the fact that even if you only know 5 people here, 4 of them have boats.

Tuesday consisted of copious amounts of Fireball cinnamon whiskey, beer and back flipping off of a speedboat. Also some amazing cliff jumps ranging from 10 to 40 feet above lake level. So after watching the Olympic diving event for an entire 15 minutes back in 2012, I felt I was adequately prepared to try a front flip into diving entry which would’ve been given a 10 out of 10 if the scoring criteria was based on how big a face-flop the diver inflicted upon his or herself. My eyelids were torn back so quickly and with such great force, I’m almost certain I unintentionally performed the first ever total frontal lobotomy. Solo.

I can't recommend this part of the world highly enough to anyone with a sense of fun and adventure. The people are some of the nicest and most accommodating you could ever hope to meet and the desert mountain lake landscape is second to none.

Just think about those three words: Desert. Mountain. Lake.

They shouldn't go together in the same sentence but how they blend in reality will leave you without breath and weak at the knees.
