THE Trip - Finally

Dublin ... hmmmm

IRELAND | Saturday, 17 April 2010 | Views [473]

In Dublin about to see my second production of Macbeth this year. It’s playing at the Abbey Theatre which is very, very close to where I’m staying – Paddy’s Palace. This hostel has been, so far … okay. The first night I was here, one of the guys in my room (yes I’m in a mixed dorm because it’s cheaper) had his bags taken. A bit of an ominous start but it gave me the motivation to hire a locker which I otherwise may have not! I haven’t been able to have a warm shower yet and this morning I walked in on a guy taking a leak – clearly he saw no reason to lock the door. My roommates, of which there are only two (one from New Zealand and the other from Zimbabwe), appear to sleep all day and drink all night. This suits me just fine as I’m usually out the door by 8am and in bed by 10pm. I know I’m in Dublin and I should be out drinking but A) drinking has never been my scene particularly and B) drinking alone just seems sad. I have, however, gone a little crazy with my book buying. I have been devouring books this year and I started getting a little worried about being able to find books in English once I got to non-English speaking countries so I fear I may have overdone it a bit. There is a wonderful bookshop in Dublin called ‘Chapters’ that sells new and 2nd hand books. I bought five. I sent a package home today just to give me a little more book room in my bag!
