My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

I am a 22 year old journalism fresh graduate. I started getting serious about photography when I was 16 when I entered polytechnic. With regards to travelling, I've been pretty lucky with my dad working in the airline industry and travel perk privileges for offsprings. However, like any Singaporean parent, travelling with my folks meant staying at the best hotels. eating expensive food. So I've only recently started having the liberty of travelling alone, and to less developed countries - though under my parents' general impression that the world is generally vicous and unkind, they'd prefer the two factors not being together. I, however, am an optimist and think otherwise. This collection of photos were taken on my trip to the Philippines in September 2010. Having grown up in Singapore, a relatively safe country, my trip to the Philippines really opened my eyes to the discrepancy in the quality of life in different states. Starting from a busride with a lady whose house was inundated by a typhoon in 2009 a day after she brought her newborn home to wandering around manila with my housemaid's husband and two of six children. Having had the opportunity to interact with locals and other travellers, this trip has enhanced my view of the world and will probably change the way I travel in future.
