One afternoon in Sahara (story of Koko & Juma)

My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Hello, my name is Dejana and I will try to explain myself and my passion for Photography.
When I was younger I wanted to become painter or photographer. Since both occupations were unfortunately not considered as ‘the smartest’ choices in means of money-making, my life path led me to Marketing and later HR (training & development).
But no matter what my work is today or will be tomorrow, I will always enjoy exploring the world around! Finding new, exciting places, observing cultures, understanding how people think/act/feel, makes me alive. Photography makes my impressions alive and capturing my findings is like creating my visual diary.
Friends who often travel with me wish that I don’t have a camera with me! :) ‘What are you doing there again? You already took a picture of that place!?’ And it is not always easy to explain that ‘the place’ is NEVER the same! My eye, together with an ‘eye of a camera’ sees so many stories. The place gets different mood with a new ray of light; new dimension with a person entering in a frame; new angle creates a new impression. Thousands of combinations of all these factors can create unique feeling in the eye of an observer.
I want to know more about all these possibilities and share with people the way I see the world. This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about different techniques and approaches. I am additionally excited because South Africa offers unique chance to experience the wild-life in its natural surroundings! Becoming a part of this adventure must be priceless!
And just before hitting the magic 300: :) My expectation is to enrich myself and try to reach and enrich people that enjoy the wonderful World of Photography!
Yours sincerely,
Explorer Dejana
