I just finished my undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Ottawa. During the course of that degree, I realized that there was a huge gap in science communication. Now I am trying to fill that gap by doing a six month post-graduate certificate in Environmental Visual Communication at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. The program so far has completely turned my view on photography around, and has given me new skills in communication and storytelling.
As part of my program I have to do a two month placement with an organization of my choice to be able to practice the skills I have learned in the field. I chose the African People and Wildlife Fund in Tanzania because of my passion for travel, and because it encompasses all the community-based conservation strategies that I consider most important. I arrived in Arusha just a few days ago, and have since settled at Noloholo Environmental Centre.
I want to commit my life to communicating science and environmental issues around the world. My program is just the beginning, and I know I have a lot to learn. I am ready to start learning, and I will be sure to make the most out of this incredible opportunity with both Jason and World Nomads in Greenland.
