My Scholarship entry - Hebron, which teaches life.

The sheer joy of visiting a new place for me is only surpassed by conveying a flavour of that place to others through the photos I take. Not just the cliche, touristy photos of guidebook destinations, but I feel I really know the city, when I have walked through the back alleys, eaten with the locals at hole-in-the-wall shacks, boarded a random bus or tram without having a fixed destination in mind, and chatted with the bartender about where to go next. These pictures, for me portray the real character of the city.
I am a Ph.D physicist, based in Glasgow now and fortunate to be working with CERN at Geneva. I lived in five different countries in three different continents -I grew up in Calcutta, India, did my graduate study in Florida, USA and worked in Dresden, Germany and in Geneva, Switzerland before. This has given me a unique perspective in this ever increasing multi-cultural, but conflict-prone world.
Travelling is a great way to learn about this diversity, and photography is the easiest medium to propagate the "picture" to people who are not so lucky to have travelled there. Learning more about how I can do this better from the professionals will be incredibly rewarding.
