My Scholarship entry - Salar de Uyuni

“Do you feel you’ve changed?” My partner asks for the umpteenth time on our vagabonding mission to explore the world. “Nope” I respond inattentively. The question haunts me on a weekly basis and I’m yet to find an answer that doesn’t sound like no, nah, not yet, maybe soon? Two years, 15 countries later and about to board an aircraft for Australia, the question and my response haven’t differed. How much can I have changed? I already see myself as an alternative identity. Artists for parents who support my pursuits including dropping out of uni to embark on a decade-long, tooth and nail trek to a career in the music industry, only to give it all up to see the world at 35.Touchdown, Oct 2013. One-week home and realisation sets in: I am a different person. Now, a year later, I understand and embrace the new me: carefree and unafraid. Music is not the pinnacle of my existence, rather a deep need to learn about people and places, our natural world. Photography has re-entered my life after a 15-year hiatus. Rewind 22 days; I gasp ecstatically as I click on World Nomad’s email. This is it, I think to myself – a step in the direction of turning a dream into a career.
