Summary:
Namibia was a surprise. I didn't know anything about it before I went there other than it was where Etosha National Park was and we were heading there for four days of game viewing.
I soon discovered that Namibia used to be a German colony and that we had arrived in the peak tourist season when many Europeans had their holidays and when the dry season means that the game congregate around the water holes in Etosha. THis meant arriving without plans or bookings made it a bit hard to a bit expensive. No 4wd or camping vehicles available so we hired a little VW polo and made the most of it.
Highlights were the sand dunes at Swakopmund and a day hike in Naukluft Park (and the apple pie at Solitaire!)
Missed the Fish river canyon and luderitz - so need to go back!
Special Note: THe Windhoek Draft Beer is the best I've had in Africa and is highly recommended.
