We finally came to and realized that life on Lanta could not go on forever and decided to move along. After a few days of exploring caves and bootng around n bikes with Alex, we relaxed and enjoyed the last two days by doing a bunch of nothing. i finished my book i bought in bangkok and moved on to "life of pi". Laura got food poisoning or something the night before we left or maybe it was a bug... because i had it a day or two later on Phi Phi island. Phi Phi started out rocky because we get flustered easily ... like, when i get off a boat and see 67369 thai people asking if i need taxi boat! to long beach, or 478954 more thai people asking me where i want to stay with 385798 pictures of all these different resorts... anyhooo we just decided to bypass them all and walk around and look for ourselves for a bit. suffice to say we got lost a bit so we headed back to the pier when we weren't so flustered anymore and tried with the craziness again. we ended up just getting a taxi boat to longbeach after all (which is a longtail boat, motorized.. pretty cool)and ended up just getting the first cheap place we could find. after a nap (we woke early to leave ko lanta) we headed back to the pier. pretty much, long beach is were youn stay if you want quiet. if you want parties and bars and shops etc, go back to the pier. anyways. we wandered and we saw a monkey chained to a bar... and then shortly after we noticed a place to book day tours so we got this awesome one for the next day. it went as follows:
we got on a big boat with about 32 other white people to explore! the water was a nice tiel colour as i recall. we departed from the pier at about 2pm and beelined to a beach about 15 minutes up the island. and on this beach? MONKEYS. we all hopped in a smaller boat and jetted over to their beach to check them out. everytime i've seen monkeys here there's always one male dominant asshole who ruins checking out the smaller ones. oh well. the monkey expedition didn't last long, anyways. from there we sailed passed the viking caves. our tour guide spoke broken english so i couldn't quite get why we couldn't go in them.... that being said we continued along until we reached this sweet cove where they offered up kayaks and snorkling gear. we snorkeled first... it was my first time doing it and it was a great primer for diving. we floated on above this coral and saw amazing tropical fish swimming all around us. i wonder how i'll feel with sharks???!?? anyways, we kayaked in and around the cove for a bit, and while that was fun we both wanted to snorkel again before the boat called everyone back. after all that, the boat headed to maya bay, which is, i believe, where "the beach" was filmed. the one with leo dicaprio right? that was awesome/ we swam to the side of the island (phi phi ley) and had to crawl through a cave which led us into jungle. the jungle eventually led us through to maya bay, the other side of the island. there were many longtail boats parked on the beach and tons of tourists. the water was really warm and awesome for swimming in, plus there was a soccer game that randomly broke out on the beach that i barely had a chance to join before we had to go. next, we got on the boat for dinner and beer to watch a gorgeous sunset. this whole trip was like, 550 baht. $1 cnd = approx. 30 baHt. LOL.
when we got home, the tentative plan was to get hammered finally and party before going to phuket. alas it was not to be as got what laura had and spent the rest of the night emitting fire hose style bursts of vomit into the toilet. sorry if tha sonds terrible, but at least you ddn't have to do it. anyways. that's all for now. phuket later....?
