Hello!
Well, obviously we arrived safe and sound to Bali.
Took a while though! Left Galway at 3am and arrived in Bali just
under two days later with a nice long ten hours in Singapore airport.
To be honest it wasn't that bad. The airport there is absolutely
fantastic, places to lock your phone/ipod and charge them, foot
massager s, massive bean bags to sleep on, 3d entertainment areas...
and more all for free! Then there's a swimming pool, cinema and
massage place where you can get fish to nibble your feet for minimal
prices! I didn't subject the poor fish to the torture though!! You
can also avail of a free bus tour of the city from the airport with
your boarding pass. I think the one striking thing you notice the
most in Singapore is the cleanliness! Its quite amazing! Your
certainly notice it when you reach Bali.
I got the chance to meet up with the other 3 surfers I was
travelling with, Jon, Andy and Eoin. They arrived in Singapore hours
after me and left one hour before, fuckers! It was good to meet them
thought, it gave me a boost of energy although it must have looked
like I was surviving on a dose of speed having left home and
graduated college in the previous two day with as much sleep as six
hours! The twelve hour flight across Eurasia involved 3 movies and a
good few beers, all free so I had to! Got chatting to an Aussie and
English girl, Mike and Elly. She was flying on to Bali too but on
another flight so I chilled out with her in Singapore which was
handy, someone to speak English to and who was a tall as me!
Well Bali is an experience! You arrive in and are instantly hit
with the heat and humidity which takes three or four days to get used
to. You pay you visa, enter customs and find your bags. I was greeted
by a young fella who I though was staff and helped me find my bags
but no... "monie monie monie boss!" It was handy as I was
on my own n he just did all the pulling and dragging untill I got
outside and met the lads. However they did proceed to take the piss
out of me for it! What harm! Then there was the taxi ride, this is
the one time in you life that you actually want to sit in the middle
of the back seat, these people are crazy! Scooters everywhere going
ballistic, passing you from the inside, outside, pretty sure there
was one ramming us at one stage!
We arrived at Ballangan Beach Bungalows at about half ten local
time where we were greeted by Jonnie. We got sorted in our apartment
and got some arrival Bintangs, a lovely local beverage! I had no
problems sleeping that night however I think the lads had a few
jet-lag problems, I don't think I ever have a problem sleeping
though!
