Island of Brač

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Blaca desert - monestary. Brač is a place of strong tradition. In 15th century Turks invaded Bosnia and glagolitic preists fleed from Poljica to Brač, where the duke of Brač gave them a piece of land and premission to settle. Settling in the caves, they founded the monastic cooperative and begin to cultivate the land.In 1570th they buildt a monastery and a church, and increased their holdings. They developed trade and for a long time this desert was one of the biggest businesses on the island. Blaca were also famous for the first opservatory in this region. This place has so much history and beauty that it takes my breath away every time I see it..
