My Scholarship entry - Dhobi Ghat - Mumbai
India | Wednesday, November 28, 2012 | 5 photos
From Galicia and 29 years old, my story began when I was student of industrial relations, 22 years old and went to Poland for 9 months to study under an exchange program and after when I would go to Uzbekistan for 5 months. In both places I discover that through a camera can capture the view and my experiences.
In these two cases I did not use more than a compact camera but was always sharing my travels with it, never wanted to fail the option of taking a picture that seemed interesting to me.
From that time I realized that my passion was/is the photography, but I could not carry on due to an important detail, my little camera was not working anymore. Comes the moment when I got a new job, in India and for a year so I could buy a new camera and bought it, a semi-professional one… Finally!
During that year, most of my free time I spend it reading about photography, learning in the field through the camera, practicing and taking lots of pictures from both the city where I lived and the places I was travelling trough.
Those trips and experiences did nothing but confirm my passion; almost using photography as an excuse to explore and learn about the corners of the places I was visiting.
DHOBI GHAT are know as open air laundromats all over India. This photo-gallery was made in the city of Mumbai going around the dhobi ghats of the city. The washers, known as Dhobis, work in the open washing the clothes from Mumbai's hotels, hospitals and individuals.
