A group of tourists nervously cross the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge after waiting in line in the pouring rain for over an hour. The bridge, which was originally constructed as a safe passage for salmon fisherman from the mainland to the tiny island of Carrick-a-Rede, hangs 98 ft above the ocean.

A group of teenage girls climb atop some of the 40,000 polygonal basalt columns that form the Giant’s Causeway. Although the Causeway is an after effect of intense volcanic activity, many tourists enjoy indulging in the imaginative myths surrounding its origin.

After a long day of driving, Matthew, my travel companion, indulges in some of the local favorites at the Dingle Pub: Guinness pie and a pint of beer. He gazes out the window on to the busy streets of Dingle, where tourism is a main source of the town’s income during the summer season.
