My Scholarship entry - Through Local Eyes

I'm pursuing a PhD in Sociology and my subject is that of Brazilian migrants living in Brighton in the UK. I'm fascinated by how these migrants create new and unique identities that integrate their past from Brazil with their new lives in Britain while simultaneously affecting the host community. In Brighton, there is a local carnival which brings together people of all backgrounds, British and Brazilians - to celebrate.
I have no experience as filmmaker and thus I want to collaborate with a good friend who has made a few film shorts and who is interested in making travel films with me. Winning this scholarship would enable us to film different, and largely unknown to foreigners, aspects of Carioca life during the Rio Carnival under the guidance of professional travel filmmakers.
