My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

My adult life has been punctuated by an unquenchable desire to explore, to be somewhere new, to be immersed in the vibrancy of new cultures, to find ways of communicating with people when language is an obstacle, and to provide some understanding of the world around us.
I’ve spent much of my life travelling and exploring. Visiting over 40 countries on 6 continents. I’ve dived inside sunken ships in NZ, alongside Hammerheads in Galapagos, I’ve lived with Hmong tribes in Northern Vietnam, spent time with the abandoned elderly in Nepal and I’ve witnessed the violent impact of social unrest in Turkey and Greece. Through all these experiences and many more I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the diversity of humanity,
The use of a camera to document these encounters, experiences, moments to me is as natural as breathing. Photography is the way I digest these experiences but beyond that - and in a less selfish sense - the camera is a way of shedding light on issues facing many of the world’s people.
I would love the opportunity to shadow Jason Edwards on assignment, to broaden my knowledge of being a working travel photojournalist. To learn from the best would be a great privilege.
