My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Mexico | Tuesday, October 25, 2011 | 5 photos

My photos show the emotions that can be realised despite terrible hardships that volunteers can bring to the abandoned, abused, orphaned and neglected kids of Mission Mexico.

I spent 8 weeks in Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico early this year volunteering at Mission Mexico after seeing an exert on the internet. These children have come from unspeakable backgrounds and through Mission Mexico they have found Love, Life and Hope.

My photos show that despite their backgrounds the children are capable of bright futures and that they are capable of love.

I have entered this competition as i am at a major cross roads due to have been out of work since being made redundant late last year. I have been strongly encouraged by friends and family members to pursue my love of photography and take the leap of faith into a full time photography career. This is definitely my first love but a huge chance at the age of 32.

I am a traveller who has travelled extensively and have amassed a collection of what i am told and truly do believe are photos that really capture the culture and dynamics of the areas.

I would relish the opportunity to work with a professional that could pass on his skills and knowledge on all things photographic and believe that I will make the leap from enthusiast to working professional in the future.

I would love to be a travelling photographer who explores the place that are well off the main tourist strips, Post war Middle East, Backstreets of Moscow, Northern Alaska etc are places that drive my ambition.

I would also like to be a person that gives back to the places i travel by donating to regional community projects that exist in the areas.
