My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Ghana | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos
My first picture, it shows the slavery in the 18th century. Where slaves from all part of the ghana are been conveyed to the coastal part of ghana for export to the western world to work as slaves. This is a type of castle they are kept before their corresponding countries.
My second picture also shows slavery in the 21 century in ghana. According to the trokosi tradition practiced in southeastern Ghana, virgin girls are given to village priests as a way of appeasing the gods for crimes committed by family members. The word trokosi in the Ewe language means "slaves of the gods." Once given to the priest, a girl becomes his property and is made to carry out domestic chores such as cooking and washing, as well as farming and fetching water. After the onset of menstruation, the bondage also involves sexual servitude.
My third photo shows, a historic river where slaves from the northern part of ghana take their last birth before walking about several miles before getting to the coast ( cape coast ). There is a tall stump to real life this is just on the left entrance it has a lot of secrets about the slave trade, who were being captured and chained to it either after bathing or before.
For the fourth picture i call it the green camp, because of the natural features i saw when coming back from the slave river. For me its a nice shot because its all natural.
My last but not the least shot shows rubbish been dumped in the sea ( Accra ). Its rather appalling but i like shot which make the public to be aware of what's happening.
I am a graduate of Accra polytechnic, who is a photographer for a newspaper on campus by name 18.com. I know i am competent and also have the experience required.
