My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

The Danakil Desert lies in north-east Ethiopia, south Eritrea and Djibouti and is known for its extreme heat and inhospitabelity. It is home of Afar, nomadic people who are able to survive in that extreme environment. The deepest point lies more than 100m below sea level. About 1,200km2  of Depression is covered by salt which is a major source of income for many Afar tribes.
