Resilience in an ancient oasis

Photography to me is like poetry. I love how one image can tell a whole story just like a few words can paint a picture.
I was born in Cairo and speak Arabic fluently. My father is Egyptian. My mother is Dutch. Travelling is in our blood. Now I live down a dirt road in an Aboriginal owned National Park in Australia. My love for people is shared equally with my love for nature. I’m happiest sleeping in the desert by a fire rather than in a bed with an air con on.
Working as an Anthropologist taught me I’m no expert. I’m like a child always learning. I was trained to ask many questions but quickly learnt that to observe, be still and let the story unfold brings me more unique insights.
I’m drawn to the silent voices that deserve to be heard and I yearn to make ordinary moments extraordinary. I love how everyone can access photographs and how people can get moved and inspired by one single frame. Photography is a powerful story telling tool. I don’t know any other medium that can transport emotions across cultural and language barriers so purely and effectively. I want to keep improving and get closer to becoming the artist and storyteller that I so want to be.
