Flogged down under

I'm in Australia! Wow. This is my 4th night in Australia, and I still can't really get my head around it. Its a strange feeling being thousands of miles away from the UK, but not ALL that strange. I haven't started backpacking yet and am enjoying spending time with my Aussie family in Fremantle. The reason I say it doesn't feel ALL that strange is because its such a quick transition. These days you can be sitting at home in freezing Mid-Wales, talking to friends, and a day and a bit later, you can be sitting down the other side of the world, talking to friends. If I was to be completely cut off from the world, and not be able to send a message with ease online to friends or family saying I'm safe and well, it would feel VERY strange. But communication is so good these days that it takes the 'lone ranger' style travel feel away.

I'm not complaining though, It's great here and have had a wonderful time so far! When the times right I'll be off backpacking, and will be able to cut myself off somewhat from the world whilst travelling the country. I can't wait for that feeling of independance and adventure, but for now I'm more than happy to be here, as a holiday maker with a mission to integrate, get a job, experience the Aussie culture before setting off on my adventure. Maybe I'll get so settled that I won't even want to backpack. But for now, I do crave that experience, but I'm more than happy to work some shifts, earn some cash, but also experience what Western Aus has to offer.

I've not even mentioned what I've been up to yet! Well, plenty of BBQ's, kids partys, trips to the beach, swimming in the sea, exploring Fremantle, and lots of sun and beer. There you go, that's pretty much it. And it's been great. I'm loving the slow pace, and whilst my heads still in the UK and my body here It's great to have the time to kick back, relax, and enjoy the sun and the WA atmosphere.

Time to sleep. One UK habit I've not shaken, and which I probably will never shake is the habit of supporting a football club in the North East of England. They kick off at 3AM. Lovely.
